A very short introduction:
FAI does fully automatic installation of Debian GNU/Linux using bash- and perl-scripts, the basic debian installation is done with debootstrap. It's modular and well documented, so it's not limited to that as well. Catch: FAI does nothing by itself, the adminstrator(s) have to create all the necassary classes, files and scripts, but there are many examples to choose from.
Read the FAI Guide! There have been lots of updates to it recently!
