Also werd ich mal 3.2.3 bauen.
14:32 MTalso es ist nicht dramatisch, aber ein bisschen broken schon :-)
14:32 MTdeshalb hab ich auch severity: important gemacht
14:32 MTm-f-n macht aber doch sogar noch apt-get
14:32 MT$ROOTCMD apt-get -y dist-upgrade
14:32 MTZeile 365
14:33 MTwenn ich das richtig sehe
14:36 Mrfaimikap: ich bau dann mal schnell 3.2.3. Ist das noch OK fuer dich?
14:37 MTMrfai, könntest Du dann gleich eine kosmetische Korrektur machen?

14:57 MT_nicht_ gefixt ist, oder schon gefixt ist?
14:58 Mrfainocht nicht oder nicht schon oder ??? Bahnhof?

16:36 sobersabreI found the problem
16:36 sobersabre/boot/grub isn't created.
16:36 sobersabreI've played with {fai_conf}/files/boot/grub/
16:36 sobersabre:)
16:38 sobersabrewhen is it supposed to be created ?

18:10 sobersabreMrfai, all I have in instsoft.FAIBASE is:
18:10 sobersabre[ -s $target/etc/kernel-img.conf ] || fcopy -Bi /etc/kernel-img.conf
18:10 sobersabreI added the creation with checks on existance.
18:10 sobersabrebefore this line.
18:10 sobersabrealthough it doesn't matter - before or after.
18:13 sobersabreas long as /boot/grub is created before grub-install.
18:17 Mrfaidoes this hook copy the kernel-img.conf? Does fcopy execute the postinst of grub/menu.lst?
18:17 Mrfaihave also a look into shell.log

18:29 Mrfaikugg: I had a look at faimond-local. Using libui-dialog-perl does not make sense. Flashing will not dissapear, because this lib also uses system to call whiptail. And whiptail does not support colors.
18:29 MrfaiSo I will just extend the existing faimond-local. No need for you to work on it any more.
18:29 kuggYes Mrfai I have also found this :(
18:30 kuggbut I have been ripping my hair for aworkaround, none found so far
18:30 Mrfaithe flashing is not that bad in a text console. In an xterm is really ugly.

18:47 sobersabreMrfai, can you look at this one: http://paste.debian.net/43352
18:47 sobersabreI don't understand these error messages.
18:48 sobersabrefor some reason it tries to install initrd image ( I don't need one, on IDE ), and for some reason there's still problems.
18:49 Mrfaithe log file is not complete. It end at line 1021
18:50 MrfaiMaybe a limit at paste.debian.net
18:50 MrfaiI like to see the rest
18:50 MTthe only error message it has so far is this one:
18:50 MT /var/lib/fai/config/hooks/instsoft.WNODE: line 5: [: mkdir: binary operator expected
18:56 Mrfaisobersabre: check your hook. What does this mkdir do?
18:56 sobersabreyep.
18:56 sobersabrehttp://paste.debian.net/43354
18:56 lazyb0ysobersabre: the deafutl debian kernels always come with an initrd...
18:56 sobersabrethis is the complete log ( removed the packages.
18:56 sobersabreok
18:56 sobersabreI am looking at mkdir.
18:56 sobersabreprobably did something bad there...
18:57 sobersabre    mkdir $target/boot
18:57 sobersabre    mkdir $target/boot/grub
18:57 sobersabrethese are the commands.
18:57 sobersabreoh !
18:57 sobersabrefound a typo.
18:58 sobersabrewaiting for this iteration to complete.
18:58 sobersabrewhere do I read on how do I define a "monserver"
18:58 sobersabre?
18:58 sobersabreI still wonder why doesn't /boot/grub get created. . .
18:59 sobersabrevery wierd.
18:59 MTdid you fix your script?
18:59 sobersabreI yes.
18:59 sobersabreI will have to wait until the kernel is attempted to be configured.
18:59 MTno more errors when calling the hook?
19:00 sobersabreif that was the problem, I want to understand why this folder isn't created auto-magically :)
19:00 sobersabrewaiting.
19:00 sobersabreI found an apparent typo.
19:00 MTbtw, you can use mkdir -p $target/boot/grub
19:00 MTinstead of the two mkdir calls
19:01 sobersabredoes it also do nothing if they exist ?
19:01 MTyes
19:01 MTeven more so, their existence does not cause an error
19:01 sobersabregood!
19:01 sobersabre:)

19:02 sobersabreso, to the problem: I did create a custom menu.lst
fai-guy (~christian@e177228118.adsl.alicedsl.de) joined #fai.
19:02 MrfaiNormally it works without calling mkdir $target/boot/grub
19:02 sobersabrethe only diff was the windows entry added in the end.
19:02 sobersabreand I renamed it from GRUB to WNODE
19:02 Mrfaisobersabre: try it using the default menu.lst.
19:02 sobersabreI will soon.
19:03 MThmm, maybe /boot/grub isn't there if you don't have grub installed in the nfsroot?
19:03 sobersabreI saw the postinst script, and all it does is substitution of some strings in the default file.
19:03 Mrfaiyep, that's ok
19:03 sobersabreI did run the installations before today, and there was no such problems.
19:03 MrfaiUse the default examples and check if they work.
19:03 sobersabredefaults worked.

19:07 Mrfaisobersabre: I you have errors during an installation, try this installation with a short list of packages. This makes debugging faster.
19:08 sobersabrethe whole thing takes upto 10-15 minutes
19:08 sobersabreif I cut the packages out, it takes 7-6 minutes.
19:08 sobersabremost of the time spend on mkfs'es.
19:08 sobersabreI could skip that too, but I've no time to mess this.
19:08 sobersabre:)
19:08 Mrfaiundo the rename of GRUB to WNODE and test again
19:08 sobersabreI prefer slower iterations, more time to think.
19:09 sobersabreI will if current experiment fails.
19:10 sobersabrehmm..
19:10 sobersabrewho is this that calls postinst ?
19:11 MTfcopy
19:11 MTin case it copies the file
19:11 sobersabreso, if I call fcopy -i /boot/grub/menu.lst  somewhere... it should do this.
19:11 sobersabreso, except the mkdir, I should also call fcopy then.
19:11 sobersabreanother iteration :)
19:12 sobersabrethe last one, I hope.
19:13 sobersabreis fcopy available in hooks/instsoft.FAIBASE ?
19:13 sobersabrewill I be able to call it ?
19:13 sobersabreI mean successfully :)
19:13 MTyes, but I guess you shouldn't do this without a kernel being installed
19:13 MTdo the call in one of the scripts
19:13 sobersabrethe problem I have is that I don't want all machines to have windows boot option.
19:14 sobersabreI also don't want to add it manually after the installation.
19:14 MThave a script named WNODE
19:14 sobersabreI prefer it to be a part of recreation of the machine.
19:14 MTthen it will be called for this class only
19:14 sobersabreso I edited file in files/boot/grub/menu.lst
19:14 sobersabreand called it WNODE
19:15 MTthat's fine, too
19:15 sobersabresince then the kernel configuration fails, since there's no menu.lst created for some reason.
19:15 sobersabreso I now edited by Mrfai's suggestio
19:15 sobersabreso I now edited by Mrfai's suggestion the hooks/instsoft.WNODE and added the folder creation and fcopy call.
19:19 sobersabreI wonder about another thing.
19:19 sobersabrewhat's the future for FAI ?
19:19 sobersabre:)
19:19 stockholmsobersabre: hu?
19:19 sobersabrethe present is nice.
19:19 sobersabre:)
19:19 sobersabrebut what's next ?
19:19 stockholmsobersabre: there are several people working on it
19:19 sobersabreok.
19:20 sobersabreis the "roadmap" avail somewhere ?
19:20 stockholmits in the wiki
19:20 sobersabreok
19:27 sobersabreI've just ran svn co.
19:27 sobersabreI guess ths is only read-only account ( anonymous )
19:41 sobersabrehmm... when does alioth *-guest stops being "guest" ?
20:10 sobersabreok ... I have lots to read.
