10:08 alleesiretart: thx.  So I take the one from feisty in ppa until it happens?
10:09 alleesiretart: btw. shouldn't the gutsy fai pkgs refer to gusty, not feisty in fai.conf and make-fai-nfsroot.conf and sources.list?
10:12 alleesiretart: that leads to the next question: bzr.  I've bzr branch .../ubuntu.   Can/Should I push back or should I create my own branch and uplaod to launch so you can merge whatever you like to back to ubuntu branch?
10:13 alleesiretart: ah, before I forget: meeting next tuesday is fine for me
10:15 h01gerbtw, just curious: does launchpad also support git or only bzr?
10:15 alleeh01ger: only bzr :(
10:15 h01gerah

10:26 siretartallee: great!
10:27 siretartallee: Well, in principle you're right. However, I didn't test with gutsy. I think this is a good point we should discuss in the meeting

11:14 siretartallee: oh, yes. I need to mark them as abandoned. thanks for pointing me to that
Action: allee sign pitty have not yet found how to use bzr init-repo with then to reduce space --> for #launchpad-user later
11:15 siretartallee: atm, there is no ubuntu-fai branch. all my work is in the team's ppa published as source package.
11:16 alleesiretart: would be nice to have a repo that replect the contents of the packages.  I've have already handful of cosmetic fixes ...
11:18 siretartallee: my branches have been created with bzr-svn, which was broken by the last bzr-svn update. updating worked, but I didn't manage to merge changes of earlier branches, so I got too annoyed
11:18 siretartallee: however I noticed that the launchpad vcs imports finally started to import the fai svn
11:18 siretartallee: https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/fai/trunk
11:19 siretartallee: I'd suggest that you branch from there, and publish your commits to launchpad

13:51 siretarttorkel: you need to install dapper via fai?

14:41 BuzerHello. I'm trying to setup a FAI server to install Debian on one of my comps. However, it's completly headless. FAI server is running inside vmware. When I boot the machine, it gets DHCP lease & requests for pxelinux.0. I attempted to download it on vmware host machine and it worked fine
14:42 BuzerThe output from tcpdump is following: http://pastebin.ca/704687
14:43 BuzerIf you need any other information, say & I will provide it
15:13 sheldonhdoes 3.1.8'
15:13 sheldonhdoes 3.1.8's make-fai-nfsroot have hooks, so i can install my own stuff into the nfs root?  or must i write a wrapper script
15:17 sheldonhBuzer: you said "when i boot the machine"... are you talking about when you boot the fai server or the fai client?
15:19 Buzersheldonh: Fai client
15:20 sheldonhBuzer: okay, then i missed the question.  you've got a fai server, and when you boot the fai client, it gets a dhcp lease and requests pxelinux.0.  where's the problem?
15:21 BuzerIt requested pxelinux.0 only. Nothing happend past that. I managed to get farther tho & now it at least mounts NFS
15:22 BuzerAnd is fai server a special executable? I can't find it from /etc/init.d at least. There is fai-start-stop-daemon executable in /sbin at least
15:24 sheldonhBuzer: the docs say the nfsroot runs an init replacement called fai, but i don't see that in /sbin
15:25 sheldonhah
15:25 sheldonhBuzer: /usr/sbin/fai
15:25 BuzerYeah. It's in the NFS mount

16:29 torkelsiretart: yes. We are running dapper on all or clusters and servers
16:29 siretarttorkel: I see
16:29 torkelsiretart: we need the LTS support
16:29 siretarttorkel: my production install server here is also running dapper, but the nfsroot is a feisty one, because I install feisty workstation
16:30 siretarttorkel: if live-initramfs doesn't work in dapper, it would be interesting to know why. We can 'fix' by uploading package to our ppa for dapper
16:32 torkelsiretart: we are planning for the next cluster, but don't want to break our current ones, so I thought I should try with the newest FAI version
16:32 torkelsiretart: I will see what I can do. Seems to be something in mountroot that breaks
16:33 siretarttorkel: I'd probably try using an updated initramfs-tools packgage in the dapper nfsroot
16:34 siretarttorkel: or creating a feisty nfsroot, and installing dapper from a dapper base.tgz, which you would need to create yourself using debootstrap
16:34 torkelyeah, I noticed that earlier that it might be to old/broken
16:35 siretartif you can confirm that all whats needed is an updated initramfs-tools package, feel free to upload it
16:36 torkelsiretart: eeeew, been there with a really old FAI, when we were installing Woody. I don't want to go there again
16:36 torkelsiretart: sure. I have a lot of other stuff to do currently so it may take a while
16:36 siretartI didn't say that I was too confident with that idea either :)
16:36 siretarttorkel: sure, take your time!
16:46 alleeanyone knows if this beast will boot? http://paste.debian.net/37605   sfdisk whines about partition not on boundry.  I would have to use --force

17:15 theBroallee: the partition having problems seems to be laptop manufactures rescue/software partition and shouldn't affect the bootability of the system. I am not sure but the new partition table might make the dell partition un-usable as the beginning of the partition seems to be lost (I have always gotten rid of manufacturer partitions and have never regretted, nor have I used winblows in 10+ yrs)
17:24 alleetheBro: thx.  I've --force now (via sfdisk=--force variable).  I don't care about Dell Utils too.  To get rid of Dell Utils the work is not worth the space one wins.  so I leave it + the preinstalled (shrunken) Windoof

17:38 alleeubuntu/gusty: below /srv/tftp/fai  there are {vmlinux,initrd.img}-<kvers>-<api>-<flavour> and the pxeconfig.cfg/* files use these names.  Is this ubuntu specific?  IMHO it's not a good idea to use name with <api> (and kvers) in them, because in the development version sid/gusty kvers and api change frequently.  <api> may change in security updates too for stable releases.
17:39 alleewouldn't it be better to use symlinks  vmlinuz-<flavor> -> vmlinuxz-<kvers>-<api>-<flavour> ?
17:44 h01gersounds reasonable
17:46 alleeh01ger: have you tried 3.2 on debian? Is it the same there?
17:47 h01gernot sure, i dont use pxe personally
17:47 alleeheh, I've never tried anything else than pxe ;)
17:51 torkelallee: I think m-f-n just copies whatever vmlinuz/initrd.img it finds in the nfsroot to /s/t/fai/
Nick change: \sh_away -> \sh_away_away
18:15 alleetorkel: right, found it.  fai-chboot just takes the last file matching vmlinux*$opt_s.  As kvers start with number and <flavour> with a letter, linux-<flavour> sorts after linux-<kvers>-...
18:15 alleeso just fixing make-fai-nfsroot to add an additional link would give back < 3.2 behaviour
18:16 alleeMrfai: ^^^ does it make sense?  I can make a patch for it
