We've encountered an interesting issue installing a ProLiant M370 with FAI; it works, but the console goes irreversibly blank when it tries to load the radeon framebuffer [12:59] Is there anything I can do to stop FAI from trying to change the console video mode? [12:59] And just stick with normal VGA? [12:59] I'd guessed that vga=normal on the PXE command line would do it, but it didn't... [13:02] ErKa (~keryell@m13.wifi.enstb.org) joined #fai. [13:02] The default FAI kernel does have fb support enabled. So maybe try a custom kernel without framebuffer support. [13:03] Hmm - will try that if I can't find a kernel option to switch it off. We're just about to try adding text nofb to the kernel command line [13:08] nofb sounds good [13:23] Didn't work though. :-) [13:25] :-( [13:25] I'm currently looking through the log on the machine to see if I can work out exactly where it happens [13:27] Aha - it looks like 20-hwdetect.source is the culprit [13:34] MT (~MT@dove.informatik.tu-muenchen.de) joined #fai. [14:07] Yep, it definitely is. Think I'm going to have to hack it not to probe for display devices on this class of machine [14:08] for portability's sake, you could use dmidecode to detect that type of machine, then use that detection to logically decide not to probe radeonfb. [14:09] sugarmice: I guess it's one of the discover calls [14:11] juri_: That's what I'm doing; I have a script 15-dmidetect which emits classes based on the type of machine it finds it is on, using the Vendor and Product entries [14:11] ifclass didn't seem to work within 20-hwdetect.source, though [14:26] In a sourced class script, are the already-defined classes available somewhere? [14:32] IMO ifclass should work, because the classes are defined in $classes [14:55] Hmm [15:27] Bingo. Success. Just added skip="radeonfb" to the discover-modprobe.conf in the NFS root [15:42] Mrfai (~lange@suenner.informatik.uni-koeln.de) left irc: Quit: leaving [15:57] sugarmice (~timc@chiark.greenend.org.uk) left irc: Quit: Leaving [16:53] ErKa (~keryell@m13.wifi.enstb.org) left irc: Ping timeout: 480 seconds [18:18] Mrfai (~lange@xdsl-213-196-240-124.netcologne.de) joined #fai.
